Betsy Smith has served on the Conservation Law Center’s Board since 2015. Since 2005, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of Western & Southern Mutual Holding Company, which oversees a diversified family of financial services companies. She serves as a volunteer lawyer for Indiana Legal Services, Inc., and as a volunteer for Executive Volunteer Services, which provides consulting services to central Indiana nonprofits. Smith also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Opera. Her past experience includes service on the Board of the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation for about 20 years and the Board of Trustees of the Indiana Chapter of the Nature Conservancy (1997-2001), where she also worked as Director of Philanthropy from 2001-2014. Her education consists of an A.B. (Social Studies Teaching) and J.D. from the University of Illinois, each with honors, including serving as editor-in-chief of the law review. Her legal practice included mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing transactions, securities, insurance transactions, general corporate, and non-profit law.
