We continue to work on solutions to Indiana’s water quality challenges thanks to a generous gift of $40,000 from the Herbert Simon Family Foundation.

Did you know over 6976 miles of streams and rivers in Indiana are impaired by direct piping of human sewage into the water? These “straight pipes” are the second-largest source of impairment of Indiana waterways next to agricultural runoff.

But that’s not all. Did you know that an additional 1228 miles of streams and rivers are impaired by failing septic systems? According to the Indiana Department of Health, over 25% of the septic systems in Indiana are failing! We think that’s unacceptable, and we’re working to change the way Indiana addresses this most critical resource—water.

Achieving meaningful change takes time and often bumps up against the status quo, but the Conservation Law Center is committed to identifying and implementing practical solutions to our common challenges. With help from the Herbert Simon Family Foundation, CLC is helping educate policymakers and build a coalition of interests seeking a better way of addressing our shared water problems.
