Larry Clemens grew up in America’s Farm Belt, where he learned at a young age how the lands and waters connect us and how agriculture touches every part of our lives.
In the fall of 2025 he retired from the Indiana State Director Role at The Nature Conservancy – Indiana. He served in that role for six years leading the program in one of the most ambitious conservation agendas and with his leadership Indiana TNC completed a $52m conservation fundraising campaign for Indiana; the largest fundraising effort for conservation in Indiana’s history. He led a program of over sixty staff impacting thousands of acres of land across Indiana each year.
Prior to the state director he was Director of TNC’s North America’s Agriculture Program. Larry guided a comprehensive approach to agriculture and conservation by advancing legislative policy like the farm bill; developing partnerships with like-minded NGOs, agencies, universities and businesses; and scaling up adoption of practices like cover crops, conservation tillage and nutrient management across North America. He spent his early years at TNC working across Indiana, the Midwest and around the world on regenerative agriculture and biodiversity conservation projects.
He spent 33 years with the Conservancy, staying close to his Hoosier roots. In retirement Larry enjoys spending time with his wife, Mercedes and children and grandkids, in Angola, Indiana.
