Dr. Michael K. Dorsey is a recognized expert on global energy, finance & sustainability matters. In 2013 the National Journal named him one of 200 national “energy & environment expert insiders”. In 1997 Rotary International gave Dr. Dorsey their highest honor: The Paul Harris Medal for Distinguished Service to Humanity. A graduate of the University of Michigan (BS & PhD), Yale (MFS) & the Johns Hopkins University (MA), Dr. Dorsey is a full member of the Club of Rome. Presently, Prof. Dr. Dorsey holds the Chair & Directorship of the Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Service.
Dr. Dorsey is a serial organization builder & leader in for-profit, non-profit & governmental realms. In the for-profit arena, Dorsey sits on the board of Around the Corner Capital—an energy advisory and impact finance platform. Around the Corner he actively invests & advises several pools of private equity finance on renewable energy & related matters globally. Dr. Dorsey is a JV partner in the Indian based panel manufacturer Pahal Solar and a limited partner in the Spanish solar concern IberSun North America.
Dr. Dorsey has a burgeoning legacy of philanthropic and charitable activity. He serves several non-profit boards, including the Michigan Environmental Council & the Oakland, California based Center for Environmental Health–the latter he co-created in 1997. He also serves on the Sierra Club national board. He helped co-create the Sunrise Movement–with two former students, and serves on its 501(c)3 board.
Dr. Dorsey’s significant government role began in George H. W. Bush’s administration. Dorsey was the youngest member on US State Department Delegation to the United Nations Conference on Environment & Development, “The Earth Summit.” Dorsey was a task force member of President Clinton’s Council on Sustainable Development. Dr. Dorsey was also a member of Senator Barack Obama’s energy & environment Presidential campaign team. In 2010 the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator appointed Dr. Dorsey to the EPA’s National Advisory Committee. He was re-appointed in 2012 & 2014.
Dr. Dorsey is widely published on environment, development & sustainable finance. In 2016 he became a contributor to the Wall Street Journal.
