Indiana National Guard

The Indiana National Guard is a joint-force organization with headquarters located at Stout Field on the west side of Indianapolis. The Adjutant General is Brig. Gen. Lawrence “Larry” Muennich. The INNG is comprised of Army National Guard armories and units across the state, training facilities at Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Air National Guard wings in Fort Wayne and Terre Haute, and approximately 14,000 soldiers, airmen, volunteer reservists, state and federal civilian employees and their families.

The Indiana Army and Air National Guard are reserve components of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. During times of national emergency, National Guard members may be called into active federal service by the President of the United States.

During peacetime, the National Guard is commanded by the governor. In its state role, the National Guard assists local law enforcement agencies during emergencies at the direction of the governor. The distribution of soldiers, equipment and facilities across the state allows the National Guard to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies statewide.

The National Guard’s dual federal-state mission is unique to the U.S. military and sets the National Guard apart from any other reserve component.

Mission: The Indiana National Guard develops the most talented Soldiers and Airmen, in the best led teams, to fight and win our Nation’s wars and serve the Hoosier state when called upon.

Vision: The Indiana National Guard will be the premier community-based military force for state and international missions, by putting our people first.on readiness, humanitarian and contingency operations such as Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
