Educating the next generation of environmental Jedis
Conservation Law Center operates the Conservation Law Clinic at IU’s Maurer School of Law. Through this clinic, second and third-year law students engage in hands-on training by representing live clients and gaining real-world experience across a growing diversity of environmental issues. This 3 credit course satisfies the professional skills requirement and gives Maurer law students the opportunity to become better lawyers while making a positive impact for the environment.
What students do
Beyond Conservation
Students now engage with a broader spectrum of environmental law—including litigation, regulatory advocacy, and community-centered representation.
Community Impact
Students are also involved in our new Environmental Legal Aid Program, offering free legal assistance to residents and organizations in northern Lake County, Indiana.
Skill Development
The clinic equips students with litigation, regulatory drafting, client communication, and legal strategy skills, preparing them for diverse careers in public interest law.
Diverse Clientele
CLC's clients range from non-profit conservation organizations to governmental bodies, with cases spanning topics such as Great Lakes preservation, conservation easements, community advocacy, environmental litigation, and the development of legal protections for migratory species.
