David retired from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust in 2025 after serving as a founding senior program officer in the Indianapolis office for nearly 26 years and working in the nonprofit sector for 37 years. While at the Trust, he was responsible for reviewing grant proposals, meeting with potential grantees, conducting site visits, and monitoring and evaluating proposals. This included developing the Trust’s Partners for the White River Initiative and overseeing the foundation’s Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholarship program at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Before joining the Trust, David served as the executive director and deputy director/financial manager of the Indiana Equal Justice Fund, which helped establish Indiana’s Civil Legal Aid Fund. He was the first full-time development director for Indiana Legal Services. David’s career in the nonprofit sector began with his appointment as the first executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Indiana. In addition, he has held positions in the healthcare and biomedical research industries, becoming a certified electron microscopy technician. David has served on numerous nonprofit committees and boards, including the Community Foundation of Boone County, IU Environmental Resilience Institute, White River Alliance’s Indiana Water Summit Working Group, IU Foundation’s Matching the Program Campaign Executive Committee (that raised more than $1.1 billion, including funds for a new IU School of Optometry Clinic on the Bloomington campus), United Way of Central Indiana and Marion County Health Department’s Ryan White Planning Council. He earned two degrees from Indiana University, a bachelor of arts in biological sciences and doctorate in optometry (O.D.). David also was in the inaugural cohort for the Grand Valley State University Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy’s courses for grantmakers program.
