Rachel Schwartz is a University of Chicago Law School Public Service Fellow. Rachel grew up in the Philadelphia area, in the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed, where the creeks in her neighborhood inspired an early love for the environment. Today, her interests lie in environmental health, and in ensuring that the places people live support their wellbeing. During law school, Rachel worked in the University of Chicago’s Abrams Environmental Law Clinic. She focused on efforts to protect community members in Northwest Indiana from industrial pollution, using the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Before law school, she worked at Legal Aid Chicago as an advocate for long-term care facility residents, and at Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer. Rachel holds a J.D. and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from Williams College.
