Conservation Law Center is now accepting applications for the position of Office Manager. This position is part-time with a flexible start date sometime in spring 2019.

Conservation Law Center (CLC) is an independent, non-profit organization that provides legal counsel to conservation organizations and works to improve state and federal conservation law and policy. The organization works with clients on a wide range of transactional, policy, and litigation matters pertaining to both regional and national conservation issues. CLC has particular interest and expertise in several topics, including endangered species protection and litigation, natural habitat protection, conservation easements, and the protection of freshwater ecosystems. Conservation Law Center was founded in 2005 by attorney W. William Weeks, former EVP and COO of The Nature Conservancy in Arlington, Virginia, who currently serves as the Center’s board chair.  

CLC also operates Conservation Law Clinics for the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, and the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. In that capacity, CLC works with student interns on its existing projects, advising clients and researching legal and policy solutions on conservation issues. In Bloomington and Indianapolis, CLC maintains offices in the same buildings as the other law school clinics.   

Position Description:

The Office Manager performs all aspects of law firm and non-profit organization administrative support. Specific duties include:

  • Basic bookkeeping, using Quickbooks, including maintaining accounts and producing reports for the board and staff;

  • Recordkeeping, including files, reports, correspondence, and other documents in support of the Center’s daily operations and three attorneys;

  • Support for grants and fundraising activities, in coordination with the Executive and Development Directors;

  • Producing documents for payroll and insurance;

  • Support for annual external financial audit and state and federal tax filings;

  • Support for the Center’s work as a student law clinic at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law.

The Office Manager will work 15-20 hours per week on a regular schedule, and reports to the Center’s Director.

The job is located in the classic college town of Bloomington, Indiana, in the beautiful unglaciated hardwood forests of southern Indiana.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have experience in office management, with experience in a law firm or non-profit organization helpful. The ability to perform bookkeeping using QuickBooks, proficiency with Word and Excel, and aptitude for filing and organization are also required.  A positive attitude, self-motivation, the ability to work cooperatively in small firm environment, and interest in environmental conservation preferred.

Compensation: 

$14 per hour or above commensurate with experience.  Includes holiday and vacation benefits, as well as matching contribution to retirement plans and group life insurance.
